Governments and Industry affirm the future of bio-based Sustainable Aviation Fuels.

The Clean Energy Ministerial Biofuture Platform Initiative – together with the Clean Skies for Tomorrow Coalition, Rocky Mountain Institute, and the Mission Innovation Integrated Biorefineries and Sustainable Aviation Fuel initiatives – organized a high-level discussion of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for the Global Clean Energy Action Forum. U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm opened the session by announcing the release of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge Roadmap, which is a U.S. government-wide strategy for scaling up new technologies to produce sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) by 2030. “From field to flight, this data-driven technology strategy will help guide America’s scientists and industry to chart our course to clean skies,” said Secretary Granholm.
Secretary Granholm was joined by Annie Petsonk, Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation, José Guilherme Resende, Secretary for Energy Planning and Development, Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil, and Dr Sangita Kasture from the Ministry of Science and Technology of India, who stressed the opportunity for bio-based SAF to make meaningful reductions in aviation sector emissions.
Representatives from the growing SAF industry, airlines, and aviation equipment manufacturers took the stage to highlight industry progress, including:

ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE SAF EVENT:
· Featured the public release of the U.S. SAF Grand Challenge Roadmap;
· Brought awareness of the Clean Energy community to the importance of aviation decarbonization;
· Showcased industry progress, including planned SAF investments;
