The Biofuture Platform Initiative is proud to have participated in this year’s Clean Energy Ministerial Senior Officials’ Meeting and Mission Innovation Annual Gathering, hosted by the Brazilian government in Rio de Janeiro.
We joined 200 senior officials from the global CEM community in Rio de Janeiro from 20-22 March to drive global discussion and ambition on growing the Net Zero Circular Economy.
We organized a sequence of productive side events, including a discussion of Future Fuels with senior officials from multiple CEM initiatives and related Mission Innovation initiatives including the CCUS Initiative, Industrial Deep Decarbonization Initiative, Clean Energy Marine Hubs Initiative, the Mission Innovation Zero Emission Shipping Initiative, MI Biorefineries Mission, and MI ISAF Mission. We are grateful for the support from the governments of Brazil, Canada, India, Netherlands, and the USA.
Many thanks to ABBI, ABiogás – Associação Brasileira de Biogás, Braskem, Raízen, and Unica for joining us and Rio and helping us appreciate the practical steps needed to increase the production and use of sustainable bio-based fuels, chemicals, and materials.
We had a successful Biofuture Initiative working session which helped us to prepare plans for the Mumbai meeting in May and the CEM14/MI8 meeting in Goa, on the way to COP28.
The Biofuture Clean Energy Ministerial Initiative representatives had a very productive time at the Senior Officials’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro. It was a great opportunity to create and deepen relationships with colleagues from Brazil, India, Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan and many other countries.
In our Future of Fuels event, we discussed cross-cutting work across multiple CEM initiatives and related Mission Innovation initiatives including the CCUS Initiative, Industrial Deep Decarbonization Initiative, Clean Energy Marine Hubs Initiative, the Mission Innovation Zero Emission Shipping Initiative, MI Biorefineries Mission, and MI ISAF Mission. This event was just the beginning of exploring roles that the CEM and MI can play to enable productive government interventions to reduce barriers to the sustainable production and use of renewable, low-carbon fuels.
We had chance to prepare plans for the Mumbai meeting in May and the CEM14/MI8 meeting in Goa, on the way to COP28.
