Recent supply disruptions have exposed vulnerabilities in global energy and commodity markets, reinforcing the need for resilient supply chains, diversified energy sources, and sustained investment. Against this backdrop, strengthening international cooperation, producer-consumer dialogue, and technology-neutral approaches has become essential to ensuring energy security while advancing the transition to more sustainable energy systems.
The International Energy Forum (IEF) Industry Advisory Council (IAC) Meeting, held on 29–30 June 2026 in Bucharest, Romania, brought together senior executives and experts from across the global energy sector to discuss strategies for stabilizing energy markets amid growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty. Held ahead of the IEF17 Ministerial to be hosted by Saudi Arabia on 11 October 2026 in Riyadh, the event focused on strengthening energy security, enhancing market resilience, and promoting investment, infrastructure diversification, and international cooperation to support a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy transition.
As Chair of the CEM Biofuture Platform Initiative, David Chiaramonti spoke in the session “Fuel Security, Decarbonization, and Affordability: Policy and Sustainable Financing Impact on Energy Investment and Trade”. In his intervention, Chiaramonti presented the CEM BFP initiative, emphasizing the need for sustainable fuels and focusing on the Belém 4x Pledge, launched by the governments of Brasil, Italy, India and Japan, today endorsed by 29 Countries. He remarked the increasing GHG performances of biofuels, key towards climate goals, and the effort done by the Platform, under the Brasilian leadership, to develop a common metric of Carbon accounting. He concluded with remarks on policy, in the crrent very critical geopolitical situation, with the Hormuz crisis still ongoing. His participation reflects the Biofuture Platform’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and evidence-based policymaking to accelerate the sustainable deployment of advanced biofuels, bio-based products, and innovative low-carbon solutions.
